This is a dangerous system. Damaging winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge, rough seas, mudslides, and flash flooding are all possible risks.

Haikui (Philippine name Hanna, Japanese typhoon number 11) is located 494 km south of Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, and has moved westward at 19 km/h (10 knots) over the past 6 hours.

Haikui will continue west-northwestward under the steering influence of the subtropical ridge to the northeast, tracking over central Taiwan after 2 days then make a secondary landfall over the Chinese eastern seaboard in around 4 days.

The favorable environment will fuel a steady intensification to a peak of 185 km/h (100 knots) in 24 hours. Afterward, increasing wind shear and later on, land interaction will gradually then rapidly erode the system down to 55 km/h (30 knots) in 5 days as it tracks further inland.

The main pack of the numerical models are in broad agreement with an uneven spread to 296 km in 3 days then widely and erratically to 300+nautical miles in 5 days.

Erratic outliers include GFS on the left margin that reverses the vortex eastward just south of Taiwan, and NAVGEM that abruptly drives the vortex northeastward toward Japan just after 12 hours.

Given the varying solutions, there is medium confidence at best to the JTWC track forecast up to 3 days, then low confidence afterward.

Maximum significant wave height is 9.8 meters (32 feet).
