I have been told of northern lights as south as Monegrillo, in Zaragoza...many years ago, it was at the time a large solar activity was in progress...

So don´t give up!!!

Yo pensaba que eran de otro color...

the most common are green and red.

The altitude, form and color of the aurora depend on the depth to which the solar particles penetrate the atmosphere.

These paticles penetrate the atmosphere and collide with atmospheric air particles, reactions takes place including Ionization.
As a result the particles emit auroral light.

The common green light occures when the particles react with oxygen and the red light with nitrogen.

Sin ninguna dudaa, unos de los espectáculos más hermosos de la naturaleza son las Auroras Boreales. Yo cuando estuve viviendo en Finlandia tuve la oportunidad de ver un par de ellas y la verdad es que son impresionantes..
