Researchers from Germany have now derived a new explanation from computer simulations. According to their theory, the strength of the magnetic field mainly depends on the amount of energy that the planet or star emits into space as heat radiation or light. Part of this energy flux is available within the planet or star to create electric flows and thereby the magnetic field. For the first time, the researchers were able to apply the new law also to stars where density changes with depth.

Que??!!Que teoria mas rara

Aunque ingles entiendo, no he llegado a pillarlo del todo bién, pero no se yo... Si según ésto, el campo magnético de un planeta es directamente proporcional a la energía lumínica (visible e infrarroja) que éste emite: ¿porque Marte no tiene campo magnético y sin embargo Calisto y Ganímedes (y creo que Europa también) si lo poseen? Marte está mas cerca del Sol y es mayor que éstas lunas, por lo tanto debe radiar mas que ellas... Sin embargo Marte carece de campo magnético como tal. Posee algunos campos remanentes, pero no una magnetosfera.
