Today the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced from their annual meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico, that five hurricane names last year's historic Atlantic season will be retired. Yes, Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Stan, and Wilma are all being put to rest. Since they are now out of the typical six year rotation, none of the five names will ever be used again. Last year's recording setting season with 27 named storms and 15 hurricanes went deep into the Greek alphabet (for the first time ever), all the way to Zeta, but none of the Greek letters will be retired.

The WMO retires name both for political sensitivity, but only to maintain the storms' identity in historical and scientific records. Since these names were due up again in 2011, they have been replaced by Don, Katia, Rina, Sean and Whitney. At five names, this also sets the record for the most number of names retired from a single season (the previous record was four names from each 1955, 1995, and 2004) and brings the total number of retired names to 67 since the process began in 1953.

This year's hurricane seaosn begins on June 1 and is expected to again be an active year. This year's list of names includes: Alberto, Beryl, Chris, Debby, Ernesto, Florence, Gordon, Helene, Isaac, Joyce, Kirk, Leslie, Michael, Nadine, Oscar, Patty, Rafael, Sandy, Tony, Valerie, and William. The only new name on this list is Kirk which replaces Hurricane Keith that impacted Central America in 2000. As in the case every year, if this list is exhausted like it was last year, storms will be named using the Greek alphabet starting with Alpha.

Fíjate que referente al ciclón Clare, tampoco es que haya dejado mucha agua si lo comparamos con los ciclones o huracanes americanos, excepto en una pequeña zona junto a la costa que no ha superado los 200mm

Si, antes estuve mirando esos mapas de precipitación y me extrañan bastante, ya que cuando recopilamos fotografías se veía que había caido bastante agua. 

Como curiosidad quiero postear la imagen del tifon Tip, que el 14 de octubre de 1979 mostraba esta imagen, y que ha sido el ciclon en el que se ha medido la presion mas baja jamas registrada...

Comienza la "fiesta" en Australia, tenemos un nuevo Ciclón Tropical que ha sido bautizado con el nombre de MÓNICA. Está localizado al Noreste del país de los koalas.

A Cyclone WATCH is now current for coastal and island communities between Torres
Strait and Cooktown, and elsewhere on Cape York Peninsula north of Aurukun.

At 10pm EST, Tropical Cyclone Monica, Category 1(Escala australiana), was centred near latitude
12.6 south longitude 149.4 east, which is 550 km kilometres northeast of
Cooktown and 640 km east of Lockhart River. The cyclone is moving west-southwest
at about 10 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Monica is expected to intensify and adopt a general westward
track over the next 24 to 48 hours. It is expected to cross the northern Cape
Yorke Peninsula coast Wednesday morning and continue to move westward into the
Gulf of Carpentaria.

People in coastal and island communities between Torres Strait and Cooktown, and
elsewhere on Cape York Peninsula north of Aurukun, should consider what action
they will need to take if the cyclone threat increases and listen to the next
advice at 5am EST Tuesday. If you are unsure about actions to be taken,
information is available from your local government or local State Emergency
Service.

The next Tropical Cyclone Advice will be issued by 5am EST Tuesday.

Fijaros en el mapa del modelo de trayectoria. Si es cierto que golpea tierra por ahí, estará breve tiempo en tierra y se adentrará en el golfo que hay al norte de Australia. Mal asunto porque volvería a ganar fuerza y volvería a golpear zonas del norte de Australia.


Esperemos que se dirija más al sur y así de esta manera, sus daños serán menores.

Pues tenemos un probability en el SE de las islas de sotavento, aunque mirando el satelite, no parece que haya algo importante.
