"At least two people were killed and four critically hurt when tornadoes hit in Atoka County, Okla., on Thursday night, media reports said. An Atoka County dispatcher told msnbc.com there was “massive” damage in the town of Tushka, south of Atoka in southeastern Oklahoma, with numerous reports of injuries and possible fatalities. “We’ve called ambulances from other counties to come and help,” she said. “There are people trapped in shelters, people trapped in their homes.” The dispatcher said several houses and a school were reported destroyed. Officials said the storm moved through just before 8 p.m. Thursday and they were still assessing damage. The storm was part of a cluster of severe thunderstorms that moved through Oklahoma on Thursday. Near Hominy in Osage County, a tornado damaged at least one home and a business and felled utility poles, the Tulsa World reported. Damage was also reported near Stroud in Lincoln County, where windows were blown out of a restaurant, and near Madill in Marshall County, where a tornado overturned three tractor trailers and damaged power lines.
In Delaware County, a mobile home was destroyed in Eucha, said Robert Real, Delaware County Emergency Management Director, the Tulsa World reported. Four people inside the mobile home were not injured, he said. Real said it isn't known whether a tornado or straight-line winds caused the damage. Power was reported out near Tulsa. Forecasters had said that tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds were possible for the southern Plains on Thursday. "Pretty much the whole gamut of severe summer weather is what we're looking at here," said Pat Slattery, a spokesman for the National Weather Service. Other areas facing a "moderate risk" of heavy weather Thursday include parts of northeast Texas, southwest Missouri and western Arkansas. On Friday, areas at risk for tornadoes, damaging winds and hail include eastern Mississippi, south central Tennessee, western Alabama, Slattery said.
In other regions, the northeast is expected to be dry, while snow is predicted in the western Dakotas, northwest Nebraska, Montana and the Rockies, according to weather.com. Near-record flooding has developed along the Red River in North Dakota and Minnesota as a result of the spring thaw."
